To the project promoted by Fujita Academy and Keio University
to Establish Infrastructure for Social Implementation of Cellular Medicine for Regenerative and Gene Therapy in East Japan
TOKYO, May 29, 2024 - SINFONIA TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. (TSE: 6507) has delivered 2 units of an automated cell-culture system CellQualia™ Intelligent Cell Processing (ICP)System to Keio University in March and finished Performance Qualification in April in this year. This device will play a role in the stable production and supply of high-quality cell medicines for the realization of regenerative medicine, which is highly expected to be a next-generation medical treatment.
Sinfonia have been developing next-generation smart automated cell culture systems in collaboration with Dr. Shin Kawamata, an international leader in the quality control of cell manufacturing (CEO, Cyto-Facto Inc., and Specially Appointed Professor, Kobe University). As an outcome of the collaboration, Sinfonia have succeeded in incorporating the concept of Quality by Design (QbD) into an automated cell culture system for the first time in the world. The system consistently monitors the entire culture process and manufactures the product while ensuring the quality of the process. This has enabled us to manufacture cellular medicine automatically while monitoring the process.
The development of this device has been completed in October 2021, and performance tests continued at both Sinfonia Kobe Solutions Laboratory and the UK Stem Cell Bank. Comparable data to Sinfonia and good performance at UK Stem Cell Bank demonstrate that the device is convenient and reliable. The results of these experiments were presented at Annual Meeting of the International Society for Cell and Gene Therapy held in Paris in May of 2023.
The system was installed in a new cell-based drug production facility on Research Gate Building4 floor of the Tonomachi Town Campus of Keio University. Keio University and Fujita Gakuen have concluded a partnership agreement for the social implementation of advanced medical technology and the promotion of industry-academia-public collaboration activities, mainly in the Haneda and Tonomachi areas. We expect that our equipment will make a significant contribution to the stable production and supply of high-quality cell medicines for regenerative medicine.

This article was picked up as an industry topic followed a press release from the MHRA that appeared on the UK government website on March 16, 2023.
In addition, “RegMedNet's 2023 remix: top content of the year”, published on December 19, 2023, named our instrument's evaluation test at the UK Stem Cell Bank among the site's top 10 articles of 2023.

We believe that this nomination represents the expectation to CellQualiaTM ICP System that the system contributes to improving manufacturing efficiency and stabilizing quality in the production of stem cells, which are the raw materials for cellular medicine manufacturing, and the spread of regenerative medicine will be accelerated by it. We will continue to strive to popularize the equipment so that various customers can stably manufacture high-quality cells.

"CellQualia" is the brand name for the regenerative medicine products of Symphonia Technology.CellQualia is a word we coined by combining the word "Cell" with the word "Qualia", which reminds us of quality.
The word "qualia" itself is defined as "a distinctive and vivid texture associated with sensory experience" (Kojien), but the word itself is derived from the Latin noun for "quality", "qualitas The origin of this word is the Latin noun "qualitas", which means "quality", and the brand name expresses our desire to focus on the quality of our cells.
With the CellQualia brand, we will continue to provide solutions that contribute to the production of high quality cells.
